Once your password has been reset and you have successfully logged in, you can update the email address associated to your account by clicking on the user icon at the top right corner of the page, and selecting “Account Settings” from the dropdown menu. From here, you will be able to update your contact information attached to your Hanen account, including your email address.

Workshops

At present, all training offered by The Hanen Centre is delivered online using the Zoom online meeting platform. If you would like to discuss further, please contact us.

You will need: 

  • A computer — one of: laptop/desktop/tablet. (You may not attend on a smartphone, and each participant must have their own individual device to participate) 

  • The Zoom application installed onto your device 

  • Reliable internet connection (wired if possible) 

  • Webcam/microphone/speakers 

  • Two screens are recommended — one to attend the online class and the other for session handouts. You also have the option to print out handouts.

Please use the tool provided at the top of the workshop listing to convert the date and time to your own time zone. Pages you visit after your time zone has been set will continue to use this setting throughout your session.

Yes, full attendance is required in order to receive your certification.

Only participants registered in the workshop will be permitted to attend. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate interpreters. Due to the fast-paced, highly interactive nature of our workshops, participants must have a high proficiency in English (i.e. they must be able to understand English, respond to questions and contribute comfortably to group discussions, which involves practicing and applying concepts learned during the workshop). All materials are provided in English. 

The Hanen Centre also offers professional development workshops designed specifically for ESL (english as a second language) professionals. Contact us for details.

Under certain circumstances, SLP students may be permitted to attend an It Takes Two to Talk® workshop. Please contact us for details.

While you may attend the SPARK Communication™ or 4Is to Socialize™ workshops, the more appropriate Hanen workshops for SLPs who work with families are the It Takes Two to Talk® and More Than Words® workshops.  While SPARK Communication or 4Is to Socialize workshops draw on content from the It Takes Two to Talk and More Than Words parent programs and also offer a framework for coaching parents in 1-1 contexts, they do not certify you to offer the full group program for parents, nor do they provide you with a Hanen membership and its associated benefits.  The It Takes Two to Talk and More Than Words workshops are tailored to the knowledge level and clinical experience of speech-language pathologists, and also provide a more comprehensive set of manualized resources for coaching parents in both group and 1-1 contexts.

Each participant must attend on their own device with a headset and camera. We do not recommend sitting in the same room as it can be distracting during breakout group sessions. 

Attendance in full is mandatory and we cannot approve any absences. You will not be permitted to complete the workshop if you leave early or arrive late due to outside appointments.

Programs

Hanen Programs are trainings that parents and educators of young children attend. They are led by speech-language pathologists or early childhood education consultants who have been certified by The Hanen Centre to offer them. 
 
Hanen Workshops are the trainings that speech-language pathologists or early childhood education consultants attend in order to become certified to lead a Hanen Program for parents or educators.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may attend a Hanen workshop in order to gain your certification to offer a Hanen Program.   

e-Seminars

The 30-day viewing period begins as soon as your purchase is complete.  Following your payment confirmation email, you should receive an email from Hanen Online Learning informing you that the e-seminar is ready to view. 

We would be happy to grant you a 14-day extension to finish viewing the material. Please contact us to make this request.

Membership

To become a Hanen member, you must complete one of our three certification-level workshops: It Takes Two to Talk®, More Than Words® or Learning Language and Loving It™. The workshop registration fee includes a one-year Hanen membership that must be annually renewed to maintain certification. Learn more about membership.

You will receive renewal reminders via email as your membership expiration date approaches, and you can use the provided link in the email to renew your membership online. To pay for your membership renewal over the phone or through wire transfer, you may contact our Membership Services Coordinator for assistance.

If your membership has been expired for over a year, you will need to contact our Membership Services Coordinator for assistance. In some cases, you may need to complete a recertification process in order to reinstate your certification.

If a purchase order is required by your organization to raise the funds for your renewal, please contact us to request an invoice for your membership renewal. The invoice will be generated and sent through email to the requested parties. Once a purchase order has been generated and sent back to us, we will update the invoice with your external purchase number and send it back for processing. Payment can be completed with a wire transfer, or by calling to arrange a credit card payment over the phone. 

We offer a discounted renewal rate to our members going on maternity leave so that they may maintain their certification(s) without the risk of having to recertify when returning to work. Maintaining your membership also allows you to stay up to date with information that we publish throughout the year (e.g. clinical updates, articles, member events, etc.). We offer a discounted renewal rate for retired members, allowing them to stay up-to-date with information that we publish throughout the year (e.g. clinical updates, newsletters, member events, e-seminars, etc.). To inquire about our retirement options, please contact us.

After your signed cooperative agreement has been countersigned by a member of our team, your certification will be instated. This usually takes 1-2 days. If you're having trouble accessing your Program resources, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. 

A one-year, renewable membership is included with entry-level workshops only (It Takes Two to Talk®, More Than Words® and  Learning Language and Loving It™), and renewal dates are associated with the date you attended your last entry-level workshop. Attending an advanced worskhop does not renew your membership.

Certificates of attendance are only provided to members who attend the live event.

Leaders of organizations and associations strive to provide their members with high-quality professional development to support their clinical skills. SLPs who work with families with young children and within educational settings with a birth-5 population may experience challenges in engaging parents and educators. SLPs need high-quality training, and this is where a partnership with The Hanen Centre can help. The Hanen Partnership Initiative was created make access to Hanen training and resources more attainable within a partnership model.

The Hanen Partnership program was created with flexibility in mind so that it meets the unique needs of your organization. SLP/T Associations wishing to increase their membership may partner with The Hanen Centre to offer member-only professional development opportunities as benefit for their association’s members. Large organizations looking to support their staff have arranged professional development opportunities for their staff where the team trains together, building knowledge, skills and common focus. 

There is no cost to enter a partnership with The Hanen Centre and there may be revenue-sharing opportunities to support your organization’s needs.  

Upon entering a partnership with The Hanen Centre, both parties will sign a Partnership Agreement outlining the roles and responsibilities of the partnership. These responsibilities can include drafting/sending communications to your organization’s members regarding opportunities under the partnership agreement, assisting with the coordination of events or professional development opportunities, and support around other forms of promotion. 

The Hanen Centre is an organization that offers high-quality, research-based training opportunities for SLP/Ts as well as other professionals working in early intervention and students who will be joining the field.
