Overview

No matter what you want a child to learn, the first step is ensuring that they’re ready to learn it. If you work with young children who have self-regulation difficulties, they may not be able to enter or maintain the calm and alert state that supports them to learn. They may seem excitable, distractible and difficult to engage, and their learning progress may be slower than that of other children.

Taking a step back to understand and address a child’s regulation difficulties can make a significant difference in his or her progress in other areas. The Pathways to Promoting Self-regulation e-Seminar gives you a practical framework for recognizing difficulties with regulation, identifying possible factors that could be contributing to these difficulties, and using Hanen strategies to help children along the path to improved self-regulation.

The 2-hour e-Seminar is divided into 3 parts:

  • Part 1 – describes how self-regulation develops, and how you can identify the signs of regulation difficulties.
  • Part 2 – shows you how to identify contributing factors that may be causing regulation difficulties and slowing down a child’s progress in other areas.
  • Part 3 – offers practical strategies for supporting self-regulation and involving families.
