Print knowledge (the ability to identify letters, words and symbols on a page and to understand how print works) is a key early literacy skill that prepares young children for school success. But just being exposed to the printed word is not enough for children to develop print knowledge.  

This poster serves as a colourful reminder the POP strategy (Point Out Print) from Hanen’s ABC and Beyond™ Program, which helps educators draw children’s attention to how print functions. By using this strategy, educators help children understand that it’s the print, not the illustrations, that tells the story.
