Part 1 - Self-Study

This mandatory self-directed module prepares you for full participation in the workshop. You’ll learn about the Hanen approach to involving parents, as well as the importance of social interaction and the stages of communication. You will also observe a child on your caseload interacting with their parent, and record your observations on the form provided. 

Midway through the workshop, participants complete a second self-directed module which introduces them to the research behind what works best in coaching parents.
 

Part 2 - Live, online interactive training

In a small online group, you’ll participate in a series of highly interactive and personalized learning sessions. Each session includes discussion and small group practice activities, as well as the opportunity to reflect and individualize the information for children on your caseload.

You gain a license to use the 4 “I”s to Socialize coaching framework in your 1-1 parent coaching sessions.

Resources

Digital access to the following materials:

• 4 “I”s to Socialize Handouts – These include Actions Plans, Strategy Sheets, and detailed guidance around communicating with and supporting parents.
• 4 “I”s to Socialize Videos – These real-life video examples help you demonstrate Hanen strategies to parents. 

Instructor

Sarah Sharit

Financial: Sarah Sharit, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist who has been working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families since 2011. She has led numerous More Than Words® programs in cooperation with the county Regional Center in San Diego, California. Sarah is a long-time Hanen member, who uses Hanen resources in her clinical work with families. She also provides school-based speech-language therapy services to adolescents and collaborates with occupational and physical therapists serving children of all ages. As a Hanen Instructor since 2017, Sarah is contracted by The Hanen Centre to lead More Than Words® and Hanen 4 “I”s to Socialize™ workshops in North America and Australia. Technical Requirements

• A desktop or laptop computer. If you would like to attend the workshop on a tablet, please ensure that you have a desktop or laptop accessible during the workshop as well. Please note that you may not attend the workshop from a smartphone.
• the Zoom application installed on your device
• webcam/microphone/speakers
• reliable internet connection (wired if possible)
• two screens are recommended – one to attend and the other to view session handouts (you also have the option of printing the handouts)

Important: Please ensure that you have all the items above before you register. If you register and then find that you cannot meet these requirements (with the exception of the second screen) we unfortunately will not be able to provide you with a full refund.
