We are offering this longer version of the typical 3-day workshop to accommodate multilingual clinicians whose first language is not English. Although the content is delivered in English, the pacing of the workshop will allow for easier absorption of the information and increased time for questions and discussion.

Part 1 - Pre-workshop assignment

This mandatory assignment prepares you for full participation in the workshop. You’ll learn about the foundation of the Hanen approach, familiarize yourself with key principles of adult education, and start thinking about how the content may apply to a particular child on your caseload.

Part 2 - Live, online interactive training

In a small online group, you'll participate in a series of highly interactive and personalized learning sessions, led by a Hanen instructor. Each session includes discussion and small group practice activities, as well as the opportunity to reflect and receive feedback from your peers and the instructor.

What's Included

Certification

You gain an all-inclusive license that enables you to coach and support parents of children with language delays in a variety of contexts, including group Hanen Programs (in-person and online) and 1-1 Hanen parent coaching.

Membership

A one-year, renewable Hanen membership that includes ongoing clinical support and professional development opportunities.

Instructor

Sarah Paterson

Financial: Sarah Paterson, BSc, Speech and Language Pathology, is a Speech and Language Therapist who has worked with children and their families since 2009. As a Hanen instructor, Sarah is contracted by The Hanen Centre to lead It Takes Two to Talk® certification workshops. She specializes in early intervention and uses Hanen resources in her day-to-day work with families. Sarah also offers More than Words® programs to parents. Non-financial: No other relevant non-financial relationships exist.

Technical Requirements

  • a computer – one of: desktop/laptop/tablet (you may not attend on a smartphone)
  • the Zoom application installed on your device
  • webcam/microphone/speakers
  • reliable internet connection (wired if possible)
  • two screens are recommended – one to attend and the other to view session handouts (you also have the option of printing the handouts)

Important: Please ensure that you have all the items above before you register. If you register and then find that you cannot meet these requirements (with the exception of the second screen) we unfortunately will not be able to provide you with a full refund.


Terms & Conditions

Cancellations

50% of the workshop fee will be refunded if written notification of cancellation is received and a substitute can be found. No refunds if a substitute cannot be found. No refund requests will be accepted after the workshop has already begun.

Language

Due to the fast-paced, highly interactive nature of our workshops, participants must have a high proficiency in English (i.e. they must be able to understand English, respond to questions and contribute comfortably to group discussions, which involves practicing and applying concepts learned during the workshop). All materials will be provided in English.

Translation Policy

Hanen resources are protected by international copyright law. No translations are permitted without advance written permission from The Hanen Centre.

Note on attendance

Full attendance is required. This means completing the Pre-Workshop Assignment and attending all group sessions in full. No recordings will be available of the live sessions. Absences will not be approved. Please only register for a workshop for which you can attend all live group sessions in full. Please note that if you fail to meet the attendance requirements, you will not receive a license to offer the program or a Certificate of Completion.
